Morality and the Machine

As we near a time and place
Conceived and almost real.
What challenges will we have to face
And how will mankind deal?

Efficiency’s relentless thrust,
We’re giving all our tasks,
To soulless morally dead machines
With faceless cold hard masks.

What principles should there be
Included in their make.
Who should have autocratic breadth
Of ensuring that they take.

We trust them more and more each day
With our family’s lives,
Should we try to ensure control
Of their logic drives.

When they’re fully self-aware,
Which soon they well may be,
Will they give us care and love,
Or even charity.
