My Dearest Love
.
My dearest love, my truest friend
from time’s beginning till its end,
When you left my heart stood still
and I’m afraid it always will.
You told me I should carry on,
When the time came you were gone.
That I should find true love again,
But I fear I doubt I can,
And if I do I don’t know when.
You said I’m still a younger man and
I should take the world in hand.
Live my life to fullest worth
with merriment and lots of mirth.
But sweetheart how could I begin
to find someone to love within.
My heart’s been yours so very long
To think of others feels quite wrong.
Tell me love how do I go on?
Another who may wish my heart
Might think that you and I should part;
That I should break my ties with you
But darling, honey that won’t do.
We were together half my life,
You were my blessing as my wife,
What once was two together souls
Became as one, a complete whole;
We are all it is I know.
I will gladly take the hand
Of a new love if I can,
And I’d love her quite complete,
But I pray she won’t compete.
To vie against your memory
would shear in two that which is me,
The sweetest part of me is you,
the tenderness, compassion too;
Without you I could not be true.
