Dainty Daphne Danced

Dainty Daphne danced,
Amongst florid flowing fields,
Gleefully she glanced,
At wonder’s nature wields.

Apollo arrogantly assuaged,
His highly haughty pride,
Making Eros enraged,
And shooting separate sides.

Hardened heart now hollowed,
She shunned Apollo’s site,
Feverishly he followed,
Nigh into the night.

Her passionate prayers to Peneus purveyed,
A Laurel Lady of Leaf, roots laid.
